 right click on
  • Ra2.exe
  • game.exe
  • mph.exe
  • mphmd.exe
  • RA2MD.exe
  • YURI.exe

 apply this setting :

 Red Alert 2 and Yuri Revenge in Windows Vista
then
---------double click (open) game.exe -> select allow
double click (open) gamemd.exe -> select allow
double click (open) mph.exe -> select allow
double click (open) mphmd.exe -> select allow
---------
UPDATE : or just turn off User Account Control :)Control Panel > User Accounts > User Accounts > Turn User Account Control On or Off

to start RED Alert 2, open Ra2.exe
to start Yuri Revenge, open YURI.exe

 no more " ***FATAL***String Manager failed to initilaized properly "

i did what you said, but it takes no effect.there are 2 exe files in that directory: game.exe and ra2.exe .
the game starts an i can hear the music and the sounds of the start menu, but the screen keeps black.
i have vista home premium 32 bit with latest updates.

i posted on 24.dec and i found a solution to run red alert 2 on my vista home premium 32bit pc.
i found it while searching for another solution to play diablo 2 on my pc wich won't work too.
i downloaded a reg-fix that enables direct draw, wich was disabled in the directx 11 version.
if nothing other helps you can try to download this:

 i'm sorry for my bad english, but i hope i could help some people with this, because nothing from here helped me with my problem.

  1. hi, my red alert is still not working in my vista. i downloaded all the 57 files (including game.exe and ra2.exe plus 4 folders key1, key2, wolapi and rmcahe) they are all in the same directory. Do i have to transfer them inside "program files folder"

  2. i dont know what happen on your "red alert'.... but transfer into "Program Files" folder is unnecessary. ... please read "readme" if you have red alert from "third party" ;P you know...

  9. I think, you can play online because when you online red alert use tcp/ip... but if in LAN, red alert use ipx..

  10. To Play Online Update To the Latest Version and enter a username and a 8 letter password once done if the username is not already chosen it should work that's how i got mine working again

    then replace [Video] section with this :

  15. Hey, I am having an issue when I try to install it. It gives me an error at the bottom saying it cannot read from ra2.mix, I tried just pressing resume all the way to the end but it just hit 100% and kept giving me the error. any help would be great :)

  17. To play Ra2 on LAN on Vista ain't possible because vista doesn't support IPX.

    But if you go to http://www.understorm.net/ you can download a file (wsock32.dll) which you simply puts into your Westwood/Red Alert 2 directory, the game will work on lan.

  20. Please make sure you apply this setting :
    Run this program in compatibility mode for:
    Windows 98/Windows Me
    and
    check the box that says run as admin...

    for all *.exe files in game folder...

    then turn off UAC (User Account Control) in Vista.. see Vista's Help for more information about UAC :)

    I think you should use "Command and
    Conquer The First Decade" it's included Red Alert 2... and it's fully compatible with Windows XP SP2 (many people report it's work in Vista x64) because EA rewrite the code...

I have Windows Vista 64 bit on my hp laptop with 4 gigs ram....for some reason when i try to play red alert 2 or yuris revenge, sometimes when i start the game, i hear the intro but it has no picture/video?? Then when the game loads to the menu after the intro, all i see is the background and the cursor...and i hear the sound of course but the menus are not there but i can click it...its wierd... i had it working for a bit, but now its doing that again. can someone please help. my email is lawsofpower48@gmail.com

    I checked it already the three following files: Mph.exe, ra2.exe & game.exe however it showed me "please insert the correct CD-Rom, Select OK and restar application".

    I think it's not a vista compatibility problem... try to reinstall RA2....
    "please insert the correct CD-Rom, Select OK and restart application" will only appear when the application not installed properly

  50. I have tried all the different compatabilities, and have ran them all as admin, and it still won't work. I've uninstalled and reinstalled over ten times, and I've tried it unpatched and patched. I'm using my original RA2 discs and YR discs, not Decade. Any suggestions?

  60. Same problem, I have so much lag that Yuri's Revenge is unplayable. Lol it doesn't get really laggy until I build my Ore Refinery...of course I tried to win without one and got completely bullet bumraped. My specs are:

    Asus G50 vt x1 Laptop, 2.66ghz intel c2d processor, 9800M GS 512mb GDDR3, 4gb Ram, 320gb 7200rpm hard drive.

    Well you would get buttraped if you dont buy a Ore Refinery...
    Well to point out, you have a laptop. Maybe RA2 is messed up on that one. Maybe try to install it on the Main Computer.

    BTW. If you install it on Windows Vista x32 without saving the files. Would you be able to run the installer, or even the Autorun?

  75. Ive done this and it usually works but now it isn't. i double click yuri.exe and it pops up that it has stopped responding close program or check for a solution's. the solution doesn't do anything. got vista and xp on dual boot and doesn't work on xp either. got xp professional sp3.

I did everything in the instructions and when i go to launch ra2 or ra2 yuri the game acts like it is going start up by popping up the game window but only shows black for about 10 secs and then minimizes automatically but doesn't close out or crash just sits there in the taskbar. Any ideas on what to do?

  77. download the orginial redalert 2 and then install it ... then install yuri and add wsock22.dll to your red alert folder in program files. then start the game and there you go !

    Running Vista 32-bit with loads of RAM, RA2 installs fine, and runs fine EXCEPT that half the sound doesn't work - specifically, the character's voices (the little bons mots that crop up when you click on a character or unit). Tried everything above - no difference.

    Can anyone help? BTW, this happens also with one or two older games as well, such as Caesar III.

    I have got YR and RA2 working recently on vista, but when I try to make an online account it comes up with 'UNKNOWN STATUS' then I press OK, and it then comes up with 'COULD NOT CONNECT TO WESTWOOD ONLINE, CHECK YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION'. My internet connection is fine... This also not only happens in these two games but also in TS. I am using 'The First Decade' disc

  87. If you guys listen or read the other freaking comments...your problems will be solved!!. I read this, made the adjustments and it worked pefectly.... xp <--> vista As far as online guys, you guys need to try hamatche what that program does is create a "fake" local network with someone online. As long as he has it too, you guys can find each other.. I play all my online games using hamatche.

  100. none of this worked for the skirmish internal error problem. what does work, however, is if you go to Options in the game and select a resolution (800x600), or do it manually by editing the ra2.ini file (ra2MD.ini for yuri's revenge) and setting the video options to 800 and 600.

  109. Hi, im rick, and i have vista like everybody else. im my ocassion, i didn't nedded to run on admin, i just simply changed the boxes from xp to windows 98/windows ME. I think is the problem for the most of the folks here, just simply look carefully on top of the page and see how it works. For the least, i just recommend to download again. The easiest way to download the game is simply download a torrent(IF YOU HAVE A TORRENT DOWNLOAD PROGRAM), and then download inside the program, it takes about 20 minutes to finish, and then install the game and do the trick on top of the page. I think my comment it helps. Sorry for repeating the same word many times.

    A few previous users have inquired about the following problem with no direct answer... am hoping someone knows the fix!?

    Loading ra2, after changing compatability to XP SP2 on relevant files and 'allowing' them to open, the EA logo sound comes thru the speakers with no image. Then the menu loads with no words.
    I happened to realise that controls, i.e. computer volume, that are controlled via keyboard and have an a pop up showing current volume, 'reveals' or updates the red alert screens.

    HEEELP?!?!

    After those 10 seconds my entire base blows up en everybody dies on my side.....

  120. Hey dudes you don't have to edit ini filez or something else. Enable compatibility settings for all exe's to windows98 and change your graphic settings to 16BITS thats all. It will work on winxp,Vista and win7

  123. I have the origional game CD's from 2001 but when i try to download, it reaches 100% but the slideshow keeps going, it occassionaly stops to tell me 'cannot find ra2.mix'- wth does that mean?? email- osamaezzet@hotmail.com

  124. heyyy!!! please, help!! yuri with sounds, but no pictures! there is the background picture which is the bar on the right but woth no choices.. but when i try to click one of those menus, they actually work.. but still, no pictures,, please, can anyone provide the fix??

  126. If you want play in LAN with WIN7 + XP you must copy wsock32.dll to the same folders on win7 and Xp than all will be work

    Network on win7 is 000000000000000
    and on XP is the same

I did as per the instructions, and I can run the program now.. however, the game stalls once the mission is loaded.. same for skirmishes (the red game window minimises and stays there, and doesn't respond when I click on the tab).. I'm running it on Vista.. anyone else encountered the same problem or knows how to solve it?

  131. When I Open My Red Alert 2 Or Yuris Revenge It Takes Me To The Main Menu and I can Hear The Sound But The Buttons Are Invisible
    So Its Impossible For Me To Play Anything Please Does Anyone Have A Solution.
