All you need is Windows Movie Maker application. In Windows XP, this program already exists by default. Follow the steps below to record video from your laptop integrated webcam:

1. Click "Start" > "All Programs" > "Windows Movie Maker"
2. On the Windows Movie Maker Movie Tasks click Capture from video device
3. In Available devices, click the analog device you want to use to capture video, and then, in the Video input source list, click the input line you want to use, then click Next.
I use "Realtek HD Audio Input" as Audio Device and "Mic Volume" as Audio Input source (Aspire 4710)

4. In the Enter a file name for your captured video box, enter a file name for your captured video file. Then, in the Choose a place to save your captured video box, select the location where you want your video to be saved or click Browse to select a location. Click Next

5. On the Video Setting page, select the video setting you want to use for capturing video and audio.

Available settings :
- Video for Pocket PC (218 Kbps)
- Video for Pocket PC (143 Kbps)
- Video for Pocket PC (Full screen 218 Kbps)
- High quality video (large)
- High quality video (small)
- Video for local playback (2,1 Mbps)
- Video for local playback (1,5 Mbps)
- Video for LAN (1,0 Mbps)
- Video for LAN (768 Kbps)
- Video for broadband (512 Kbps)
- Video for broadband (340 Kbps)
- Video for broadband (150 Kbps)
- Video for ISDN (48 Kbps)
- Video for dial-up access (38 Kbps)
Typically, a higher bit rate will result in higher-quality video with smoother motion. However, as the bit rate increases, so does the size of the captured video file.
6. To prevent the video into smaller clips after the wizard completes and the video is captured, do not select the Create clips when wizard finishes check box,
To prevent audio from playing over your speakers while capturing video, select the Mute speakers check box.
To automatically stop capturing after a time period has elapsed, select the Capture time limit check box, and then type or select the length of time you want to capture. Time is displayed in the form of hours:minutes(h:mm).
To begin capturing, click Start Capture.

7. To stop capturing, click Stop Capture.
If you have selected the Capture time limit check box, wait for the specified amount of time for video to be captured.
Done! :)you can open your video in drive D:\
note: you may use another webcam not just from Acer

Thanks a lot...
ReplyDeleteMr.Cahya for information about acer webcam.
I Enjoyed It.. :)
too bad windows movie maker in vista doesnt seem to have the capture function in my version...
ReplyDeleteany other thoughts on how to get it to work in vista?
thanks
Vista doesnt give the option please email at kda2011@yahoo.com if you know how to do this.
ReplyDeleteMicrosoft: Upgrade and charge you up the rear, but give you a downgraded version. Like the others who have posted, Vista Movie Maker does not give you the Capture Device option. It does give you a Import from Digital Video Device option...but when selecting it, the integrated webcame light on my acer comes on for a split second, then Movie Maker gives the error "Import Video could not find a compatible digital video device" And just a link to Windows HELP...which for some reason is extremely difficult to navigate. Windows ME has a better help system for F Sakes. rediculous, with all the new technology, compatibility is a greater issue than it was back with Windows 98.
ReplyDeletecapture video on windows vista
ReplyDeleteI tried this before I googled this article and it didn't work for me either. Is it because I am using Vista? Does anyone have any answers for why it doesn't work? Or even how to record using the integrated camera?
ReplyDeleteI can use it at places like cameroid.com, or in MSN messenger but not in recording softwares..strange
Thanks man,
ReplyDeleteThis information is really helpful
Hi there Mr. Wanna ask you a questions. I just bought 4530 yesterday. At first, my integrated webcam is working fine. But today when I try to start the webcam, it is blank. No picture showing. Is it the hardware problem or the driver? No error message only blank. FYI I'm using XP pro. TQ
ReplyDeleteHi Imrock.. click Start > Run... > type devmgmt.msc
ReplyDeleteOn device manager locate "Crystal Eye" OR "USB Video Device" , right click on it, select Disable, after device disabled, right click on it, select Enable. Try your Webcam :)

ReplyDeletetry installing an older version of msn, worked for me :)
ReplyDeletehere is the answer....
ReplyDeleteClick 'start' > Computer > C:drive > Windows > SUYIN NB Cam > Then Right Click LiveCam, Choose Send to Desktop (as shortcut) After launching, you will have to manually activate your mic, cam, record mic, and time limit prefrences each time you record a video. It's clunky software, but at least you don't have to download some risky 3rd party viral junk.

ReplyDeleteUhm, I actually using Acer Laptop Aspire 4736Z.. At first, the webcam, Acer Crystal Eye Webcam, works good.. It can capture images, and Record Video too! But this time, It can't record video.. Here's the scenario: When you click the icon at the bottom of the video window that indicates record video, looks like a handy cam, a red dot will appear at the "handy cam" logo bottom, the view will turn to gray (the real view, which is me facing on my laptop), turn to black.. Then, the view will return again, back to normal, WITHOUT indication of recording it.. I mean, nothing happened.. What am I going to do.. I need to record a video very badly.. So please, help me? Thank you very much! God Bless you all!!!
