When I open eSettings Management from Empowering Technology, I see that my BIOS version is v1.02. Acer website says that BIOS update is available for my Aspire 4710, so I believe this problem are caused by the outdated BIOS on my laptop. I decided to update the BIOS firmware. Follow these steps to update Acer BIOS:
Step 1:
Download BIOS update then extracts it...
Caution! Different Laptop series = Different BIOS
Click this link to download the compatible BIOS firmware for your laptop.
Step 2:To update the BIOS, double click on VLV-110.exe, WFlash will show a warning :
"The current BIOS will be replaced by another one. Choosing the wrong BIOS file may render your system inoperable. Please close all other applications before updating the BIOS. Are you sure you want to update the BIOS ?"

Click OK to continue.

WFlash will automatically update the BIOS. Wait until it finish and your computer will restart automatically.

Finally my BIOS is v1.10 and I can shutdown and restart my notebook smoothly...

From Acer : Flashing the wrong BIOS can cause harm to the system. Acer recommends that you should only upgrade your firmware/drivers if you have been instructed to do so by an Acer Customer Care representative.
By using these firmware/drivers you agree to accept the possibility of product failure. Use at your own risk

I have another problem... Iinstalled the xp in my aspire and I was having the same problem to restart and shutdown the computer when I read this post... then unfortunatelly I installed 4710's bios in my aspire 4720z and now I can't install xp or vista... even when I use the DVD Recovery that I recorded... I can't find the aspire 4720z's bios... Please help me...
ReplyDelete4720z use same motherboard as Aspire 4720 : Nestos
ReplyDeletePlease download BIOS Aspire 4720 (Download here) then ...
1. make your USB Flashdisk bootable (read your usb flashdisk manual)
2. insert all files to USB Flashdisk
3. Boot your computer from USB Flashdisk
4. Execute flash.bat to flash the BIOS
if doesn't work please contact your local Acer Service Center

ReplyDeleteRe: I downloaded the BIOS stuff from this site and followed through with the info and I double clicked on the VLV-110.EXE and it wont respond! I'm not sure what to do??
ReplyDeleteDo you have problem with your BIOS?
What is your Laptop type?
Are you still can boot to Windows?
I recommends that you should only upgrade your BIOS if you have problem with your laptop and upgrade BIOS is the only thing that will solve your problem...
Re: I downloaded the BIOS stuff from this site and followed through with the info and I double clicked on the VLV-110.EXE and it wont respond! I'm not sure what to do??
ReplyDeleteIf BIOS upgrade process already started, just wait.. do not turn off/reset your laptop...
by the way, are you sure that you download the correct BIOS for your Acer type?
Anyone know how to update the BIOS on an Acer TravelMate 5320 with Vista Premium?
ReplyDeleteI created a bootable DVD with Nero and added the flash files but it won't work, and I can't do it via winflash as it crashes the laptop.
Do you still able to login to windows Vista?
ReplyDeleteplease make sure use BIOS from this link... btw only BIOS for windows XP available... but i think you may use it on windows Vista, but you should turn off UAC (User Account Control) and run CLB-135.EXE as administrator...

For Aspire 5622 (5620 series) you can download empowering technology (XP and Vista) here... you need update BIOS if you have a problem and update BIOS is the way to solve the problem.. if you have no problem.. do not update your BIOS...

ReplyDeletewaktu aku maen game, tiba2 Aspire 4710 ku langsung kluar dri sistem dan muncul warning kayak gni:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these step:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop massage,
disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.
Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advance Startup options, and then select Safe Move.

Hi Ivan your laptop is Aspire 4710, so the VGA is Intel, try to update your VGA driver (Download)
btw, when you try to update your laptop BIOS, please make sure that your laptop use the battery and the battery level is more than 30% (and connected to AC power source of course)..
but try to update your VGA driver first... and see it will solve your problem or not.

Hi Cahya,
ReplyDeleteMy Aspire 4530 is in trouble. I'm using Windows XP SP3 before and downgraded to SP2 now to find out what's wrong with my notebook. Also using v.1331 as my BIOS.
The problems are:
1. Everytime I boot up the laptop, it'll start with a DIMMED (no light) LCD screen. Everything (Loading, Loging, Desktop stuff) is working even without any light on screen. In the next 5-10 minutes the LCD is working fine (the light turn ON by itself).
2. My laptop can't go SLEEP, HIBERNATE or even SHUT OFF when I press the Power Button. (My Acer guy said it was because my SP3. Even I downgraded to SP2, still like that).
3. Sometimes I can't start by pressing the Power Button, so after wait a few minutes then I can power it up. (My Battery is full and chargeable).
Could you help me to figure out what's wrong with it?
Do you have any new BIOS updates for my 4530?
Thanks a lot bro. :)
A friend who need help.

Hello
ReplyDeleteI have an Acer Aspire 5735. Since the begining I had problems with my screen flickering, sound problem (noises) and my touchpad. I recognized that the only solution is updating BIOS. I found the latest version on acer support site. What I want to know is whether I can flash from Windows XP 'without' any consequence as the update is issued for Vista.

ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteDo you know if there is somehow to update the bios with a boot disc? Something was wrong with my vista, so I took my recovery backup and tried to install a new clean version. But it wont complete... So I think it is a bug or virus something in the bios(?). I made the recovery backup the first day, so it ok, and I have used it before...
And thanks for a great site :) Lot of useful info here :)
btw, it's a acer 2930...
ReplyDeleteThanks :)

Hello; I'm adding RAM to acer aspire T180. There are 4 expansion slots. I'm upgrading to 1GB sticks and I'm wondering if the sticks have to be placed in any special order? Or just 1,2,3,4 in standard order. I presently have sticks in 1,3,4 and puter boots up ok showing 3GB of RAM. When I add stick to slot 2, puter has problem booting up and keeps asking for additional restart. Finally got to desktop, but can't go anywhere from there. Removed slot 2 Ram and puter boots up ok. Is slot 2 RAM stick defective? If so, any other test for it?

I received a Bios Update notice from Acer, so I downloaded & installed the InsydeH2O update as instructed. This has now caused my computer to demand a Bios Supervisor Password every time I boot up, which I don't have & have never had to do before. I have luckily been able to get my computer to boot up by continuously pressing the F12 key, but the Bios Password demand is still there when I boot up, causing me to have to use the F12 key each time I boot up. Acer support instructed me to download & install the previous Bios version, which I did. But, this did not fix the problem.
A normal boot up usually starts with the screen that says, "Press F2 to enter setup." Which does not work, & neither does F8. I have to start pressing F12 constantly before that screen comes up, & keep pressing it until that screen goes away in order for my computer to boot up. I cannot get into the setup at all to check to see if the supervisor login can be disabled, if it is for booting up?
I've even tried to press F2 to enter the setup while pressing F12. That doesn't work either. However, I was able to access Advance Boot Options by pressing F8 & F12 continuously together. This screen has several options, such as, Safe Mode, Repair Your Computer, Normal Mode. . . etc. I do have Empowering Technology that has Acer eSettings Management with System Information, Boot Options & Bios Password Settings that allows Bios Supervisor Password Settings & Bios User Password Settings. As I mentioned earlier, I don't have & never have had a Bios Supervisor Password, so removing this password fails every time. There wouldn't happen to be a default supervisor password that might allow me to access setup, would there?
Acer says the only way to remedy this Bios problem is to ship my computer to them to fix it. If anyone has any ideas on how I can fix it without shipping it to Acer, I'm more that willing to listen.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Thank You
