you need to change boot order, boot usb flash drive first, if this still doesn't work, try to use another usb flashdrive

  10. Hi..Can the flash drive/ external HDD be made bootable without formatting...thing is I've got an external HDD (I only have a 2 Gb flash drive) and formatting the HDD wouldn't be the best solution for me...very useful tutorial though...I've already installed XP using your guide and it worked flawless...but I really want the Win 7 since I can't manage to find the appropriate drivers for all my laptop components for XP.

  22. there is not need for a program all you have to do is:

    format the drive using Diskpart
    Pearl > Run > Diskpart
    list disk
select the disk for your usb drive
    clean
    create partition primary
    select partition 1
    active
    format fs=ntfs quick
    assign
    exit.

once you exit the command prompt, copy the content of the Windows 7 DVD to the usb drive..
plug it in > restart your system > select boot menu (varies with OEM Manufacturer) > select USB Driver or external drive and you will be loaded into WinPE where you can install windows 7 from.

  23. If you ever get a blank screen at GUI mode, it means that you already have an operating system residing at the first partition because this is the default booting option : multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS

All you have to do is to select which partition you want to instal XP to. In most cases you want to install it on the second partition, so you choose: Debug boot rDisk 1 partition 2.
Or use your head and decide which disk (rDisk) and which partition you want to install it.

Don't even think to clear your previous window because you think or as someone has stated that his research has told him always to install XP first, that's rubbish.
