Hello,
Anyone successfully getting the XP audio drivers to work on 4390G with XP Pro SP3?
I have no problems with the rest of the drivers except the AUDIO. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.

Windows 7 on Acer Laptop - How to make Vista driver compatible with Windows 7 (Seven) ?

Yesterday I bought a 640GB 3'5 Western Digital hard drive and a "Point of View" hard drive external case.... I use it to backup all data from my Acer Aspire 4710...
and finally I have a chance to install Windows 7

Windows 7 (Seven) installation was so easy... just like Vista. All devices detected and Windows 7 automatically install the driver except for Card reader (Aspire 4710)....
this is device manager screenshot :

But there are no Windows 7 drivers available for Acer Aspire 4710 yet... so I decided to install vista card reader driver (O2 card reader - Aspire 4710)

O2 Card Reader driver Windows Seven
Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?lhin0mywjk5
Installation: double click it.. and install it as usual... no problem found :)

Device Manager screenshot after card reader driver installed :

Although all devices are detected but control panel for Realtek Audio and Intel VGA are unavailable, we should download and install it manually.

Realtek Audio driver Windows Seven
Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?djdytywtwty
Installation: double click it.. and install it as usual... no problem found :)

Intel VGA driver Windows Seven
Download: http://downloadmirror.intel.com/16312/a08/winvista_1583.exe (Intel GMA 950)
Installation: This driver has compatibility problem with windows 7... when you install it as usual, it will show an error message "This operating system is not supported. Setup will exit."

How to make Vista driver compatible with Windows 7 (Seven) ?

You should use Compatiblity Troubleshoot option on Windows 7

step 1:
Right click and select Troubleshoot compatibility

step 2:
Because we already knew that the driver is made for vista, click on Trobleshoot program "Select this option to choose compatibility settings based on problems you notice"

step 3:
What problems do you notice?
Select "The program worked in earlier versions of windows but won't install or run now" then click Next

step 4:
Which version of Windows did this program work on before?
select Windows Vista or Windows Vista (Service Pack 1) then click Next

step 5:

Test compatibility settings for the program Settings applied: Windows compatibility mode: Windows Vista (Service Pack 1) You need to start the program to make sure these new settings have fixed the problem. After running the program using these settings, click Next to continue.

in this step please click Start the program...

step 6:
if no window appears, please click User Account Control icon on taskbar, then click Yes

step 7:
actually setup window already appear, but it is behind Program Compatibility window, please click setup icon on taskbar to make it visible.

step 8:
click Next

step 9:
This computer currently contains driver version x.xx.xx.xxx, which is newer than the version you are about to install. Are you sure you want to overwrite the current driver with the older version x.xx.xx.xxxx?

Click Yes

step 10:
please remove check mark on "Automatically run WinSAT and enable the Windows Aero desktop theme (if supported)"
I think we don't need this on Windows 7...
then click Next

and install VGA driver as usual....

Please select "No, I will restart this computer later" and click Finish

step 11:
back to Program Compatibility window, click Next

step 12:
click "Yes, save these settings for this program"

step 13:
Please wait a moment..... then click Close The Troubleshooter
and restart your computer. Done :)

Now everything is complete...
All devices detected, and I have control panel for VGA and Realtek Audio....

If you have installed Windows 7 on your Acer laptop (Aspire, TravelMate, Extensa, etc...)
please write a comment and tell me what device(s) was not automatically recognized by Windows 7
don't forget to mention the laptop type...
sharing what you know about Windows 7 on Acer laptop with other Acer users
anything you can share is very much appreciated!
Thanks :)
